Anjini Dhawan, the latest entrant into the illustrious Bollywood film industry, has stirred quite the buzz even before the release of her debut film ‘Binny and Family’. The fact that she shares the same surname as popular actor Varun Dhawan has led many netizens to speculate about a potential familial connection. It turns out, Anjini is indeed related to Varun Dhawan; she is his niece. Anjini is the granddaughter of Anil Dhawan, who happens to be the brother of the renowned filmmaker David Dhawan, further establishing her Bollywood lineage.
On Friday, Varun Dhawan was seen wholeheartedly supporting Anjini at the trailer launch event of ‘Binny and Family’. A proud uncle, Varun made it a point to express that Anjini landed the role on her own merit and didn’t rely on any familial connections to secure her spot in the film.
“‘Binny and Family’ is produced by Mahaveer Jain,” Varun Dhawan revealed during the launch event. “I did not know Mr. Jain professionally, and hence, there was no way for me to sway the producer’s decision to cast my niece in the film,” he clarified. He further emphasized, “No matter how much I say that she did this on her own, she has bagged the film on her own. It’s difficult to believe when you belong to a film family, but it’s true. I am not related to Mahaveer ji; professionally we haven’t worked together. He didn’t cast her because of me or my dad. I learned about the film through two friends, Shashank Khaitan and Varun Gupta.”
Varun also shared a rather insightful perspective on why his father, David Dhawan, a celebrated director, never actually launched him into the industry. “My father never launched me. We don’t have that tradition and he doesn’t believe in it. So, we have no hand in what she has done. Therefore, standing here, I won’t take any credit for her success. She’s genuinely done all this by herself,” he asserted.
A social media enthusiast, Varun took to Instagram to officially welcome Anjini to the film industry. He posted several heartfelt pictures from the trailer launch event and captioned them warmly, “Welcome to the movies @anjinidhawan.”
Anjini’s debut film, “Binny and Family,” appears to be a promising venture. The film tells the story of Binny, a teenager based in London, who finds herself navigating through life while living with her conservative grandparents hailing from Bihar, India.
. The movie promises a narrative filled with dramatic events as the contrasting lifestyles of Binny and her grandparents unfold. The film’s cast includes notable names such as Rajesh Kumar, Charu Shankar, Pankaj Kapur, and Himani Shivpuri, aside from Anjini herself.
During the trailer launch, Varun also delved into the topic of ‘adulting’ and credits his mother for being his support system. He discussed how his outlook has changed since stepping into fatherhood. “It feels a bit odd when mom and dad scold me, and then in the next moment, I’m in my wife’s room scolding the baby, and she scolds me too… At that point, you wonder what your position is in the house. This is what ‘adulting’ feels like when you are caught in these situations. I consider myself very lucky,” Varun explained.
He further elaborated, “I have an elder brother who carries a significant load… What becomes extremely worrying for any child is the parents’ health. When we’re young, our parents worry about us. Even now, they continue to worry. This concern is mutual between my brother Sidharth, my sister Shilpa, and me.”
“I derive all my strength from my mother, and I’m sure they also draw their strength from their mother,” the actor emotionally shared.
Looking ahead, Varun Dhawan has his plate full with the upcoming action thriller ‘Baby John’. Directed by Kalees and produced by Atlee, the film also features Keerthy Suresh, Jackie Shroff, and Wamiqa Gabbi. ‘Baby John’ is the Hindi remake of Atlee’s Tamil film ‘Theri’ from 2016, setting high expectations for its forthcoming release.
Anjini Dhawan, with her impeccable lineage and evident talent, is all set to create her own niche in Bollywood with ‘Binny and Family’. The excitement surrounding her debut is palpable, and her journey in the film industry will be keenly watched by both fans and critics alike.
