Internet celebrity Orhan Awatramani, better known as Orry, along with 7 others, has been booked for allegedly consuming alcohol at a Katra hotel near Vaishno Devi, a holy Hindu shrine. An FIR was registered against the eight for “violating the law of the land” and a team was set up to nab them for “hurting the sentiments of people”, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said in a statement. Subsequently, angered netizens have called for a ‘ban’ on Orry for purportedly insulting the Hindu faith.

The Katra Police Station received a complaint on March 15 that some guests staying at a hotel were found consuming alcohol on the premises in violation of rules. They were also consuming non-vegetarian food. An FIR was then registered against the eight and a team was set up to apprehend them. They have been booked under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Besides Orry, the other individuals named in the complaint are Darshan Singh, Parth Raina, Ritick Singh, Rashi Dutta, Rakshita Bhogal, Shagun Kohli and Anastasila Arzamaskina.
FIRs under Section 223 of the BNS are typically registered for violating prohibitory orders issued by a public servant. Last month, Katra Sub-Divisional Magistrate Piyush Dhotra reportedly issued an order under Section 163 of the BNS, prohibiting the sale, possession, and consumption of liquor and non-vegetarian food. Officials stated that the order was intended to respect the religious sentiments of pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district.
The punishment proposed under the provision depends on the consequences of the violation. If it causes or is likely to cause obstruction, annoyance, or injury, the offender may face up to six months in jail, a fine of ₹2,500, or both. If it endangers human life, health, or safety, or leads to a riot, the punishment can extend to one year in jail, a fine of ₹5,000, or both.
Notably, prosecution does not require intent to cause harm. It is enough that the offender was aware of the prohibitory order and that their disobedience resulted in or was likely to result in harm.
Orry or Orhan Awatramani is a socialite and social media influencer best known for his closeness to several Bollywood stars, especially star kids. He became an internet curiosity in 2023 owing to his presence at plush Bollywood parties.
Orry has a degree in Fine Arts and Communication Design from Parsons School of Design in New York. His LinkedIn account says he is a Special Projects Manager at Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairperson’s Office. Though his exact profession remains a mystery, Orry has spoken about being a graphic designer in the past and working at a Steve Madden store in Mumbai. He has also described himself as singer-songwriter and a fashion designer.
Adding to the miasma of mystic, Orry likes to call himself a ‘liver’.
Orry is famous for his friendship with Bollywood star kids like Ananya Panday, Janhvi Kapoor, Nysa Devgan, Ananya Panday and Khushi Kapoor. He is also friends with Bhumi Pednekar. “I wouldn’t really say I’m friends with anyone in the ‘film industry’ — the people I’m friends with are actually my peers. We’re the same age; we all went to school and college at similar times. There are only a few people who I consider industry friends and who I met only in the industry, like Bhumi Pednekar. We didn’t know each other until a couple of years ago, but we’re really good friends now,” Orry told Cosmopolitan magazine in 2023.
Orry made headlines as a wildcard entry in the television reality show Bigg Boss 17. Hosted by Salman Khan, the season was aired in 2023. He appeared in an episode ofFabulous Lives Vs Bollywood Wives, showing off his newest phone case and quizzing Karan Johar in the style ofKoffee with Karan. Johar also featured him in a special episode of season 8 of his popular chat show.
Orry made a cameo in Call Me Baestarring Ananya Panday and recently did in a single-scene appearance in Nadaaniyan. The film stars Khushi Kapoor and Ibrahim Ali Khan. According to reports, Orry will make his big-screen debut in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War, alongside Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor.
