RN Podar Emerges Victorious Over Fatima School in Thrilling MSSA U-16 Clash

In a riveting encounter on Friday, RN Podar High School (Santacruz) managed to edge past Fatima School (Vidyavihar) with a narrow 2-1 victory in the boys U-16 third division match of the Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school football tournament. The closely contested game took place at the St Francis D’Assisi ground in Borivli and was watched with bated breath by an enthusiastic crowd.

The match started with RN Podar taking an early lead, courtesy of Marwan Agashe, who found the back of the net within the first four minutes. Agashe’s swift movement and clinical finish gave RN Podar the perfect start, putting them ahead and applying early pressure on their opponents. However, Fatima School, led by their resilient skipper Nash D’Souza, displayed commendable fighting spirit.

Fatima School did not take long to retaliate. In the 11th minute, a foul inside the penalty area on Danish Shaikh provided them with the perfect opportunity to level the scores. Nash D’Souza took charge of the situation, stepping up to take the penalty kick. With nerves of steel, he converted from the spot, making it 1-1 and injecting a fresh wave of enthusiasm among the Fatima supporters.

The momentum shifted somewhat in the second half. RN Podar, looking to regain their lead, began to push forward more aggressively. Their efforts bore fruit when Tanish Jain managed to score off a perfectly executed free-kick mid-way through the second half. Jain’s strike stunned the Fatima defence and restored RN Podar’s lead, making it 2-1.

Stunned yet again by this turn of events, Fatima School players threw everything into finding another equalizer. Despite their fervent efforts and several close calls, the RN Podar defence held firm, thwarting all attempts to breach their line of defence. The final whistle signaled a hard-fought victory for RN Podar, who managed to secure the win despite not being entirely convincing in their overall performance.

Simultaneously, the day’s second match featured an equally engaging clash between Billabong International (Malad) and St Xavier’s High School (Fort). The contest saw Billabong International pull off a dramatic 1-1 draw, thanks to a last-gasp equalizer by Aarav Reddy. Revanth Koyyala had initially given St Xavier’s a well-deserved lead in the first half, but Reddy’s late header off a flag-kick ensured the points were shared.
